There are about 150 symptoms linked to PMS. Up to 90% of menstruating women in their child bearing years experience premenstrual symptoms. Up to 10 percent of women have symptoms severe enough to hamper their ability to function normally.

Background Information

PMS is a combination of various emotional and physical symptoms that begin one or two weeks before menstruation and continue until one’s period arrives. These symptoms are caused by chemical and hormonal imbalances during the second half of a woman’s menstrual cycle.

Symptoms may include:

Headaches, depression and moodiness, fatigue, breast tenderness, fluid retention, backaches and joint pain, cramps, acne, weight gain and bloating, and constipation.
